/ KEY INDICATORS The first key indicator is the percentage of new vehicles in the heavy vehicle fleet that meet the least polluting standards. The target was to reach 68% of Euro 5 or 6 standards, which was exceeded in 2023 (70%). The second indicator relates to the trend in the fuel consumption (in litres) by the vehicles (light and heavy vehicles). In 2023, it is 7.84% higher than in 2022 for France: this can be explained in part by the increase in the number of petrol vehicles at the expense of diesels (under identical conditions of use, a petrol engine consumes more fuel than a diesel) and by increased driving. The method used to calculate this indicator is the purchase volume in euros of road fuels weighted by the average annual price of a litre of fuel in France. To be precise, consumption in terms of litres (readings from light and heavy vehicle fuel cards) increased by 9.1% between 2022 and 2023, with petrol consumption tripling between these two years, to the detriment of diesel. Lastly, in 2023, 3.5% of the truck fleet in France was replaced by new vehicles with improved environmental performance. In addition, the catalogue of heavy vehicles used for the French fleet contained at least one electric vehicle and at least one hybrid vehicle for each category in 2023. Bioethanol-powered cars were also available alongside conventional combustion engine vehicles.
